Traralgon night rider
THE new Night Rider bus trial will start in Traralgon in the early hours of Sunday morning 15 March.
The first Night Rider bus will depart from Stockland Plaza.
Introduction of the service was delayed following the bushfire emergency in February, as the aftermath of the fires was likely to affect entertainment venue patronage and consequently influence the trial evaluation.
The TAC-funded trial will give people a safe and inexpensive way to get home after a night out in Traralgon.
Latrobe City mayor Lisa Price said the new service aimed to help people get off the streets and home as quickly as possible from entertainment venues, and was designed to increase safety in the Traralgon CBD.
``The service should also provide an incentive for those going to late night venues to leave their vehicles at home,'' Cr Price said.
Latrobe City's acting coordinator community development, Jill Hanley, said the bus would provide two trips - one leaving at 2.30am and the second at 4.30am from Stockland Plaza.
``The Night Rider bus will drop patrons off at places such as Mid Valley, Gunns Gully, and the Morwell and Moe Railway Stations or according to group needs,'' Ms Hanley said.
``If needed, taxi's will be available from each of the drop-off points for patrons to secure a safe trip home.
``Two security guards will travel with patrons on each of the Night Rider services.
``The security service will identify where patrons want to get off and make those arrangements ahead of time.
``Coupons to use the service can be pre-purchased for $5 and are available through any Latrobe City service centre or from Traralgon entertainment venues.''
The trial will operate for 10 weeks and will be continually monitored for service improvement.

Bio - Our current Committee PUMP IT is in its third year. Our committee consists of two males and seven females. Our FReeZA committee is talented in different areas. We have young people that work part-time, attend tafe or secondary school and young people with disabilities. We have a great group and welcome any new young people that want to be a part of our FReeZA committee.
Events: What you can expect from our events is good music, the chance to meet new people and catch up with friends. The chance to have a funky time and know that the event is drug and alcohol free. We also encourage new ideas, we chat with peers at our events to find out what they would like Freeza to do in the future. Also lots of fun.
Highlights - Our highlights so far has been our battle of the bands event which attracted a lot of young people and local music talent. It was awesome to organize and turned out to be our best event yet. We get asked when our next Battle of the Bands is!
Benefits - FReeZA gives young people something to do. Young people in our municipality have to travel to the city to get good entertainment. We also live in an isolated area; however Freeza gives us something to do and brings the entertainment to us.
Community Support - We are lucky our community does support our events, by donating prizes and giving us good deals on say recording time for Battle of the Bands. We also get support from local businesses by advertising our posters on there shop windows.
